The Cage Within
Aisha sat by her window, watching the world move while she remained still. The weight of guilt pressed on her shoulders like an iron chain. She carried burdens that were never hers to bear. She hid behind a mask of perfection, afraid that if the world saw her cracks, they would turn away.
She had spent years believing that she had to suffer for her mistakes, that love had to be earned through flawlessness, and that brokenness had to be hidden. And so, she lived in a world of daydreams—imagining a life where she was free, but never daring to step into it.
One evening, as the sky turned gold and crimson, a gentle breeze carried whispers to her heart: What if you stopped?
She frowned. "Stopped what?" she murmured.
Stopped punishing yourself. Stopped waiting for the perfect time. Stopped hiding.
The thought stirred something deep within her. What if she let go of the guilt and embraced innocence? What if she replaced blame with forgiveness? What if, instead of waiting for love, she gave love?
Aisha took a deep breath. The choice was hers. She had spent too long in the cage of her mind. It was time to step out.
With trembling hands, she picked up her journal and wrote three words: I am enough.
The war between her conscious and subconscious mind was not over, but she had made the first move. And that was enough to begin.
